The preferred antibiotic regimen is rifampin BID for two days.<\/li><li>The most common cause of a bilateral Bell\u2019s palsy is Lyme disease.<\/li><li>The most common cause of maternal mortality during delivery is maternal hemorrhage, which can be caused by uterine atony, genital trauma, retained products, or, DIC.<\/li><li>The most serious adverse reaction to ketamine is laryngospasm, which is treated with bag-valve-mask ventilation. The virus is transmitted via respiratory droplets<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"201\" height=\"74\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/RapidReview-2-e1475624722961.png\" alt=\"rapidreview\" class=\"wp-image-818\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Bupivacaine toxicity<\/strong> is treated with<strong> intralipid<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Hydrofluoric acid<\/strong> is treated with <strong>calcium gluconate<\/strong>, either topically or intra-arterially.<\/li><li><strong>Benzodiazepine<\/strong> overdoses should be treated with <strong>flumazenil<\/strong> but use caution in those who use them chronically as reversal may precipitate seizures.<\/li><li><strong>Iron<\/strong> overdoses occur with ingestions of greater than 40 mg\/kg. They should be treated with <strong>deferoxamine<\/strong>. For less significant overdoses, GI decontamination may be attempted. Charcoal is of no use here, as it does not bind Iron.<\/li><li>The <strong>5 stages of iron toxicity<\/strong> are GI irritation, recovery, shock and metabolic acidosis, fulminant hepatic failure, and bowel obstruction leading to scarring.<\/li><li><strong>Trousseau\u2019s syndrome<\/strong>, a <strong>migratory thrombophlebitis<\/strong>, is associated with <strong>pancreatic cancer<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Erythema nodosum<\/strong> is an inflammatory condition characterized by tender red-violet nodules under the skin. The most common cause is infection. Drugs can also cause erythema nodosum, with OCPs being the most common culprit.<\/li><li><strong>Erythema nodosum<\/strong> is treated with NSAIDs. Potassium iodine can be used in severe cases.<\/li><li><strong>Ovarian torsion<\/strong> is difficult to diagnose. It is commonly seen in women of childbearing age and more commonly occurs on the right, especially in ovaries with large cysts. <strong>Laparoscopy<\/strong> is the only way to definitively rule out the condition.<\/li><li><strong>EBV infection<\/strong> can lead to many neurologic complications such as encephalitis, meningitis, and Guillain-Barre Syndrome.<\/li><li><strong>EBV infection<\/strong> is associated with a profound <strong>lymphocytic predominance<\/strong>, with <strong>atypical<\/strong> <strong>lymphocytes<\/strong> seen on the peripheral smear.<\/li><li><strong>Splenomegaly<\/strong> is a common sequela of EBV infection, so remember to tell athletes to abstain from contact sports for up to 4 weeks after infection.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That concludes episode 6.
