This new FPD recognizes EM physicians who have comprehensive knowledge of AEMUS, beyond the basic skills.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Originally published August 2021 \/ Updated November 2024<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-eligible-for-the-aemus-fpd\">Who is eligible for the AEMUS FPD?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only ABEM-certified physicians.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before applying for the AEMUS FPD Exam, physicians must fulfill one of three pathways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Training Pathway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training-Plus-Practice Pathway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice-Only Pathway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But note the Training-Plus-Practice and Practice-Only Pathways will end on December 31, 2026. Learn more about all three pathways and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abem.org\/focused-practice-designations-fpd\/advanced-emergency-medicine-ultrasonography-aemus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">AEMUS eligibility here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-is-the-next-aemus-fpd-exam\">When is the next AEMUS FPD Exam?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next exam will be in 2026, and exams occur every two years (in even-numbered years).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-the-aemus-fpd-exam-cover\">What does the AEMUS FPD Exam cover?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exam is based on the Core Content of AEMUS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physics and Technical Aspects of Ultrasonography<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anatomic\/Diagnostic Ultrasound<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Procedural Ultrasound<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education and Research Skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Administration and Quality&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-aemus-fpd-exam-format\">What is the AEMUS FPD Exam format?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exam questions are multiple-choice. Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abem.org\/public\/become-certified\/focused-practice-designation\/advanced-em-ultrasonography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ABEM site<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-will-my-aemus-fpd-expire\">When will my AEMUS FPD expire?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you pass the exam, your FPD will expire five years later, on December 31st of that year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say you receive your passing results on June 1, 2024.
