But recently, I noticed something odd. While my students were studying for their rotation exam using another Qbank provided by their program, the question and explanation seemed to reflect the old diagnostic criteria from psychiatry\u2019s handbook of diagnosis, the <em>Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders<\/em> (DSM). That\u2019s not necessarily odd, in and of itself. But then it happened again. And again.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For example, one explanation said that ADHD diagnosis needed symptoms present prior to age 7, but that was the <strong>old criteria<\/strong> from DSM-IV-TR (fourth edition, text revised version of the DSM). The newest DSM-5 (fifth edition) criteria sets the threshold to before age 12 instead.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interestingly, there was a common theme when the old diagnostic criteria were used: they referenced the source as the \u201c<strong>DSM-V-TR<\/strong>.\u201d The strange thing about this is that there is no DSM-V-TR\u2014<strong>it does not exist<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For those less familiar with some recent changes to the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DSM<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> produced by the American Psychiatry Association, the APA switched from Roman numerals (which it had used in prior editions) to Arabic numbers (so using 5 instead of V for the most recent edition). Also, there will no longer be \u201ctext revised\u201d versions for updates before a new edition of the manual is made. It will instead be 5.1 or 5.2, which will be more familiar to those used to software or operating system updates.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/?attachment_id=2351\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"368\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/368x250-DSM-IV-AND-DSM-5-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/368x250-DSM-IV-AND-DSM-5-1.png 368w, https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/368x250-DSM-IV-AND-DSM-5-1-300x204.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So how <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">might<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> someone make it seem as though the information is up to date without actually changing the content or checking if things were changed in the latest DSM?
