Coloboma<br>B. Hypertelorism<br>C. Leukocoria<br>D. Palpebral fissures<br><br>Answer C<br><br><strong>Leukocoria<\/strong> refers to a <strong>white pupillary reflex<\/strong> and may be caused by <strong>abnormalities of the retina<\/strong> (retinoblastoma), <strong>vitreous<\/strong> (hemorrhage), or<strong> lens<\/strong> (cataract). <strong>Retinoblastoma is the most common intraocular tumor of childhood and leukocoria is the most common presenting finding<\/strong>. Other clinical manifestations include red eye, nystagmus, strabismus, and squint. Retinoblastoma may be hereditary (associated with germline mutations in the retinoblastoma RB1 gene) or nonheritable. The diagnosis is typically made with dilated indirect ophthalmoscopic examination, ocular ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging. A <strong>chalky<\/strong>,<strong> off<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>white retinal mass with a soft<\/strong>,<strong> friable consistency is the characteristic finding <\/strong>on dilated indirect ophthalmoscopic examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/?attachment_id=2448\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"556\" height=\"322\" src=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Image-Retinoblastoma.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Image-Retinoblastoma.png 556w, https:\/\/www.roshreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/Image-Retinoblastoma-300x174.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Coloboma (A)<\/strong> is a term used to describe the condition where normal tissue of the eye is congenitally missing and can affect the eyelid, lens, macula, uvea, optic nerve, or retina. Coloboma is not associated with retinoblastoma, but may occur in isolation or be associated with syndromes involving other body structures such as renal coloboma syndrome or CHARGE (coloboma, heart anomaly, choanal atresia, retardation, genital and ear anomalies) syndrome. <strong>Hypertelorism (B) <\/strong>refers to an abnormally wide interpupillary distance and is associated with a variety of syndromes including trisomy 13.
